Background to our shaman drums:

In 2008, I bought my first shamanic drum, made by Vice Native Drums. A beautiful piece of craftsmanship that accompanies me every day to this day. The craftsman behind Vice invented an ingenious system for building the best drums in the world. In 2022, my wife Marycke and I began apprenticeships at Vice to learn more about the craft and not let this knowledge go to waste. We will continue to do the woodwork at Vice in the Black Forest in the coming years and have now set up our own workshop in Horn-Bad Meinberg (Teutoburger Forest) The frame drums you can purchase from us are already built entirely by us.

What is special about these frame drums?

The drum’s frame is turned from a single piece of tree trunk. This not only looks beautiful, but also provides unprecedented stability and strength, allowing for a high level of tension. The tensioning system ensures that you can tune your drum correctly and quickly under any conditions. Hot, cold, damp, dry, indoors, outdoors… a consistent sound can be maintained everywhere. In short: a professionally built musical instrument.

Would you like to buy a drum from us?

All frame/shaman drums are handcrafted with love and craftsmanship. There are no standard sizes; each drum is unique.

The drums have a diameter that varies between 25 cm and approximately 60 cm. The woods and hides vary. The combination of size, wood, skin (horse/goat/ox/deer/buffalo/elk), sound and beauty of the drum determines the price. Prices are from 190 € to 530 €.

You can try out the drums with us and take your time. We always have a selection of drums in Berlin, Utrecht, and Horn-Bad Meinberg (Lippe). Care tips and guarantee for our drums:

You can tighten the drum (this will make it sound higher) by pushing the eyelets toward the center. Press the cords together and then push the eyelet.

When you stop drumming and put the drum away, you should push the sliders out again (relax).

You can tighten or loosen the grip by pulling the cord so that your hand fits comfortably underneath it for a more gentle grip. This is especially helpful when drumming while standing for long periods.

About once a year, you can rub the inside of the drumhead with a little gun oil (Ballistol) or olive oil (preferably pure and untreated). The easiest way to do this is with a brush.
Our frame drums come with a warranty. If anything is wrong, contact us and we will solve the problem. If you have any questions about the sound or other questions about the drum, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Marycke and I met and fell in love over 15 years ago. We’ve been inseparable ever since, despite our long-distance relationship. We also work together and are currently renovating our future home in Horn-Bad Meinberg (next to the Externsteine), which will include a beautiful woodworking shop.

What makes your shaman drums so special?

Our drums are lovingly handcrafted from natural materials. Each drum is unique—in sound, energy, and charisma. The frame is turned from a single piece of wood. The special tensioning system allows for variation in sound.

What materials do you use?

We use carefully selected wood (mostly sweet chestnut, Weymouth pine) and dried animal skins (e.g., deer, goat, horse, ox, moose). All materials come from sustainable or respectful sources.

Are the drums energetically cleansed or blessed?

No, each drum is built with love and care by Marycke and Stephan together. In addition, they are kept energetically neutral so that the new owner can build their own relationship with the drum without any pre-treatment. Upon request, we can accompany a handover ritual.

How do I choose the right drum for me?

Listen to your intuition—often you can intuitively sense which drum “calls” to you. You can let us know in advance what you are looking for (size/animal skin/sound) and what you want to use it for. We will make a preliminary selection and then be happy to advise you in person or via video call.

Are there any sound samples or videos of the drums?

No, we will arrange an individual appointment with you and will be happy to help you make your selection.

How do I properly care for my drum?

Keep them dry and protected, e.g., in a drum bag. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and heavy rain. Specific care tips are included with delivery by email.

Can your drums also be used in rituals or healing journeys?

Yes, they are made precisely for that purpose. Our drums are often used for shamanic journeys, sound healing, meditation, or rituals.

Do you also make custom designs?

Yes, but only in very rare cases when finished drums in the desired size or animal skin are not in stock. It is also possible for you to bring/send us an animal skin and we will build a drum from it using our system. Simply contact us for a non-binding consultation.

Can I return the drum if I don’t like it?

For standard models, the statutory right of withdrawal of 14 days applies (shipping costs are borne by the customer). Unfortunately, custom-made items cannot be returned—but we will do everything we can to ensure that you are 100% satisfied.

How long does delivery take?

For finished drums, the delivery time is usually 3–5 business days (international longer). For custom-made drums, it is 4–6 months. You will receive an exact time frame upon purchase.

Do you also ship abroad?

Yes, we deliver worldwide.

Do you also offer drum-making workshops?

Unfortunately not, as our craft is too complex. In addition, the construction requires various longer rest periods and relocations.
